Fourth of July in Falmouth

Everything is in place for a great 2014 Fourth of July weekend in Falmouth.  The festivities kick off with the weekly Falmouth Town Band concert on Thursday, July 3 at Bigelow Marine Park on Scranton Avenue.  Of course, the theme is patriotic music.  Bring your best singing voice as the audience will be invited to sing along.

Start the Fourth off with the 3rd Annual Run Jack Run, a 1.2 mile family fun walk/run that starts at 9 a.m. at Falmouth High School and goes to Trotting Park.  Check-in and same day registration from 7:30 - 8:30 a.m.  All proceeds benefit Jack'sPACT, a community group, scholarship fund, and anti-drunk driving campaign.  Jack'sPACT was started in memory of 16 year-old Jack Pearsall who was struck by a drunk driver after leaving a fireworks display in 2011.  He died of his injuries on July 4, 2011.

If you love a parade, there's the Bike and Carriage Parade on Main Street in Falmouth at 11 a.m.  Decorate your bike, wagon or stroller and join the fun.  The Marine Biological Laboratories Fourth of July Parade starts at noon at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute parking lot on Water Street in Woods Hole.

The main event is the fireworks display (voted one of the Top Ten best in the country) at Falmouth Heights Beach, which gets under way at dusk.  No need to go to the Heights to see the show, the beaches along Surf Drive offer a great view as well (and less traffic). Special thanks to the Falmouth Village Association as the Underwriting Sponsor for the fireworks this year.  Rain date is Saturday, July 5.
